There is actionalble and practical advice in this baby book and it is our top choice for the best baby book that every parent should read.
There is no mention of sleep training in this book, but it will teach you how to calm down a fussy baby and lull them into a nice deep sleep.
Another pick for parents of newborns, the The No-Cry Sleep Solution is an excellent choice.
This book goes over baby’s biological sleeping rhytms so parents can create a customized plan to help baby sleep through the night.
This book goes over common sleeping issues that arise and goes over how to overcome these issues.
This is an excellent book for parents who prefer to use gentle parenting methods to help baby fall asleep.

Best Baby Books For Twins
For parents of twins, the Twelve Hours’ Sleep by Twelve Weeks Old is a must have baby sleep book.
The teachings in this book help you get your baby to sleep for 12 hours by the time they are 12 weeks old.
This book does encourage sleep training so be sure you are wanting to go that route if you plan on purchasing this book and using these methods.
The author is a baby sleep guru and she goes over feeding systems and how to help even the most colicky baby fall asleep on their ow.
Some parents do believe that this is a very intense parenting style, but it has been proven successful for parents who went through with the teachings.
Remember it is all about sleep training, so if that is not your thing, this is not the best book for you.
Best Baby Books That Use Sleep Training Methods
For a book on sleep training, On Becoming Babywise is a classic and has stood the test of time.
The methods discussed in this book help parents naturally syncronize the baby’s wake time, feeding times and night cycles to help get them on a schedule.
This book also touches onto colic and reflux within babies and helps parents work through those difficulties.
Most babies that use this sleep training method can sleep through the night between 7-9 weeks of age.
Last but not least, our second favourite sleep training book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child is an excellent choice for parents.
This book does use the cry it out method to get baby to sleep.
A lot of the practices involve ensuring baby is not overtired and how to prevent over tiredness by addressing issues with bedwetting, nightmares and resistance to naps.
The methods outlined in this book do work, but parents do need to be comfortable with using the cry it out method.

What Do You Learn From Baby Sleep Books?
There are some common items that you will learn from baby sleep books and these are:
Babies wake up often: Newborns wake up every 45 minutes to an hour, and they usually cry when they wake.
Most books will teach you how to get your baby to fall back asleep on their own, to make it easier on you as a parent so you can sleep more than one hour at a time.
Baby sleep advice is a little contradictory: Some baby books will advise you to sleep train immediately while others will advise you to wait to sleep train until the baby is a year old. You can try to use nursing, swaddling and rocking to calm the baby down and drift off into sleep but you might be creating some bad habits for your little one. Of course, the baby will grow out of all those habits eventually.
It can be difficult to discern which advice is actually helpful and which is no use to you at all.

A Note About Sleep Training Babies
You can sleep train or you can not sleep train that is totally up to you.
There are advantages and disadvantages to every sleep method, so you need to do what is best for your family.
The most important thing is to be educated on the ramifications of “crying it out” and being either ok with it, or knowing about it and avoiding it.
Most baby books will recommend that you do not start sleep training until month 4.
Baby Sleep Training How-To
The idea of sleep training is to provide your baby with an opportunity to fall asleep on their own. It is not meant for parents to leave the room and let the baby cry for hours on end. There are many ways to sleep train but here are the basics:
- Lay the baby to sleep when they are drowsy
- Let the baby cry for 3 minutes after you leave the room
- Check on the baby after 3 minutes and pat her on the back to let her know you’re around but do not pick her up.
- Leave the room within a minute of entering.
- Let the baby cry for 5 more minutes.
- Repeat steps 3-5 until the baby is asleep.
- Within a few night’s time, the baby should be able to go to sleep on her own.
Natural Parenting And Baby Sleep Guide
Natural parents or attachments parents do not use the sleep training methods mentioned above. These types of parents are all about creating strong bonds with the baby and using positive parenting methods even through babyhood.
